Q
I am currently staying in Japan as an international student. I have acquired the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2. I am going to a four-year university and aiming to acquire "General status of employment (engineer, interpreter, etc.) that can work", but I am also interested in "Specified Skilled Workers". What's the difference?
A
"Specified Skilled Workers" have a term of up to 5 years for No.1 and another 5 years for No.2. This is not a permanent status of residence, as the expected number of recipients in each target field is the maximum number of foreigners. If you filled the conditions for “Residents who can work (engineers, interpreters, etc.)”, you can also obtain a permanent residence visa. "Specified Skilled Workers No.2" can also become "permanent residence" as long as it meets the conditions, but the law changes from time to time with the newly established status of residence. After working with "pSecified Skilled Workers", you can change to "General status of employment (engineer, interpreter, etc.) that can work" and able to work.
